Operating out of Stanley, Idaho is always a treat and this season is no exception. Please remember to recreate responsibly while in the outdoors, but most of all have fun!

Weather and Conditions

Over the past week the weather has brought some chilly days and a bit of rain to the Salmon River country. However, it seems that summer is moving into full swing as the weather moves to reach temps of high 80’s throughout the week. Water levels are running about 3 to 4 weeks ahead of schedule and leveling off to great fishy flows for mid June.

Upper Salmon River

Cutthroat, Rainbow, and White Fish have been catching over the last few days despite higher water as the snow melt continues. Due to the Spring run off the water running fast and slightly murky with sediment. However, our anglers have had luck with Salmon Flies and Simulators with droppers.  MFC Prince Nymphs and nymph0-manics are producing sub-surface. If you choose to tie your own, keep in mind that hatches have been alternating with an emphasis on Caddis.

Middle Fork of the Salmon

The fishing on the Middle Fork has experienced a slow-start the past few weeks during the run-off with primarily sub-surface action.  This weeks unseasonably warm weather should improve the fishing, and get the fish looking toward the surface to feed. Salmon Flies and Stonefly are working best on the upper river with big foam Chubby Chernoby and Normwood Special in the lower canyon.

The Stanley Fly Shop

We are proud to announce the opening of our newly renovated Stanley Fly Shop. This renovation has been in the works over the entirety of the winter. Our very own Tara and Troy were at the head of this project, and are excited to share all of their hard work with you! We are now fully open and operational, so make sure to stop by for any rod rentals, flies, sun shirts, and hats that you may need.
